A Producer Company is a specialized corporate entity in India designed for agricultural producers, including farmers, harvesters, and those engaged in activities related to post-harvest processing and selling. This concept was introduced under the Companies Act, 1956 (Section 581A) through an amendment in 2002, based on the recommendations of the Y.K. Alagh committee. The primary aim was to allow cooperatives to operate as companies and give them the organizational and legal simplicity and flexibility of a company. The framework for Producer Companies is now incorporated in the Companies Act, 2013.
